Your safety at East West Lodge is our paramount concern at all times, and especially during our Ayahuasca Ceremonies.
We have a freshly stocked first aid kit on site at all times in case of an emergency, or even for minor things like bug bites. Our English/Spanish speaking facilitators are trained in emergency CPR and first aid training.
At the end of each Ayahuasca Ceremony, a faciliator will conduct a verbal check to ensure you and the other guests are in a good state before leaving the Ceremony Moloca (or, if you want, you can just sleep where you are in the Moloca after Ceremony). We also monitor guests throughout the night to ensure your safety and well being.
Our Comprehensive Risk Management Program
A responsible Ayahuasca retreat center should have a comprehensive risk management program in place to protect guests. At East West Lodge, our Risk Management Program includes a systematic analysis of possible risks, a strategy for preventing those risks, and procedures for handling any risks that materialize.
The main components of our Risk Management Program are:
- Prevention and Planning
- Rapid Response
As part of our Prevention and Planning, we undertake a comprehensive review of potential accidents and emergencies. Then devise protocols to minimize the chances of accidents occurring. We have written plans for what to do in the event that an accident or emergency actually does occur.
We conduct periodic Immediate Response drills, where our staff run through the protocols developed in the planning phase in order to deal with accidents or emergencies. Staff at East West Lodge are familiar with all emergency action protocols.
At East West Lodge, your experience of drinking Ayahuasca is enhanced by the knowledge that you are in the care of people who are concerned for your safety and have planned and trained for minimizing and handling emergencies.
During all Ayahuasca Ceremonies, we ask that you remain inside the Ceremony Maloca for the duration of the ceremony except for trips to the bathroom. This is for your safety. We don’t want anyone wandering around in the jungle at night disoriented under the effects of Ayahuasca.
If you are taking Ayahuasca for the first time, you might be concerned as to how you will handle its effects. It’s normal if you feel some level of anxiety, apprehension or even fear, and we fully understand and appreciate your concerns.
During your Ayahuasca Ceremonies, an English/Spanish speaking facilitator will be ready to help at all times to ensure your comfort. A facilitator will help you to and from the toilet if needed (most of our guests prefer to make it on their own, but some feel more confident with a guide) and provide tissues, blankets, water or whatever else you may need.
